CAAMI Stages Sit-In/Reads Demands at US Attorney’s Office
Several CAAMI protestors staged a sit-in at the US Attorney’s Office on Friday to personally deliver and read a list of local and national demands in response to recent incidents of fatal police violence. Local press were on-sit as the demands—including the passing of the End Racial Profiling Act (ERPA), the immediate demilitarization of local law enforcement across the country, and an end to the School to Prison Pipeline—were read in the crowded Attorney’s Office, at the Federal Courthouse in Albany.
During the sit-in demonstrators sang and spoke about the fight for equality and justice, particularly for men and women of color. After delivering their demands to a representative, the protest moved outside the courthouse, where the demands were read aloud and interviews were given to the press.
The sit-in occurred without incident, and the community response was overwhelmingly positive.
