#UnitedWeFight Justice for Dontay Ivy/Marquis Dixon Public Action
Monday, August 10th Capital Area Against Mass Incarceration held a public action at the office of District Attorney David Soares’ in Albany. Community members, including clergy and the family of Marquis Dixon, spoke candidly about the recent injustices that have transpired under Soare’s watch. Members from CAAMI then occupied the DA’s office and presented a document outlining their demands, including indictments for the officers who killed Dontay Ivy, and Soares’ support in the appeal case of Marquis Dixon (youth offender currently serving an excessive sentence in Coxsackie Correctional Facility).
DA Soares has since released a statement doubling down, arguing that Marquis mugged the “victim” at “gun point” over a pair of sneakers. Soares also mischaracterized the nature of the reduced sentence offered, making no mention that his office demanded a guilty plea on a gun charge that Marquis has adamantly denied and that he has no physical evidence regarding. He made no comment on Dontay Ivy’s case.
